Before returning to Paris we went to Aiguèze (yet again; it’s ridiculous, I’d been there 7 times in three weeks, a sure sign that there is really not much to do in the countryside) for its Fete Médiévale. I know I could’ve taken photos of the swordfights, the medieval costumes or the straw-littered streets, but I found myself strangely drawn to this artisanal candy stand. I think I was standing in front of it for a full ten minutes, just looking at candy. The seller must’ve thought I’d lost it. Maybe that’s the effect of not being allowed to eat anything sweet. I’m not into sweets, really. But I’ve been craving, craving, craving for things I’d normally wrinkle my nose at. Macarons parade in and out of my dreams at night, as well as ten-layered chocolate cakes and apple tarts. Once I even dreamt of a very ordinary Twix bar and I awoke with an extraordinary hunger for it. Trippy.

It was a very hot day, and people took shelter under the canopy that was strung over the square next to the church. The shadows on the people and on the walls, cast by the canopy, made the entire scene shimmer. It looked unreal, as if they were all underwater.

I left the festival extremely unsatisfied, because I didn’t get any candy.

I looked fantastic though, wearing a huge straw hat.

Beautiful photos as usual Kala though the blue candy look weird. And the people under the canopy look more like Monet or something like that

Thanks Hanim! The blue ones look like stones. Sugary stones. Miam miam.
What about you, how is life in AD treating you? I hope you and Karim aren’t going crazy with all the Ikea installing you have to do! :) But it’s a good price to pay to be in a real “home”, right?

    Bises.

Hey..you’re right. Look like stones! AD still the same, but maybe once we got our own place, things will change. Don’t worry about us, since we “donated” a lot of money to Ikea, they will deliver and install all the stuff for FREE!! YIPEE…we are suckers aren’t we :P

How bout you? Are you getting better now?
