Years ago, back in Manila, it was a hobby of mine to cut my own hair. All I needed was a mirror, another mirror, a plastic bag (to put the hair in, I’m no slob) and a pair of scissors. I was quite good at it, too. But I think I’ve gotten all self-conscious about my hair-cutting skills, since I arrived in France. I used to not care about having my hair all lopsided and strangely-shaped back in Manila. If my haircut was really bad (and believe me, it only happened about 4 times), I could just go to a salon and have it evened out without breaking my budget. But well, now, I’m in Paris, surrounded by women who look like they’re going to a magazine photoshoot, no matter if it’s raining like hell outside (when it’s raining and I have to commute, I resemble one thing only – a Very Wet Duck). And also, I have always had Jul around to warn me “not to do anything stupid with your hair – leave it to the professionals” whenever he would catch me heading towards the bathroom with a pair of scissors and a plastic bag…Anyway, earlier today I gave myself a haircut. But there’s only one mirror in the bathroom, so I decided to cut the hair at the back of my head by the “feel” of it.
It seems that if you have not cut your own hair during the past 4 years, you will lose the “feel” of it. But hair grows back as sure as the sun rises and sets. All of you must remember that, and do not ever, EVER judge my haircut.

Everytime I cut my bangs I butcher them, but I never learn. *puts on a hat with you*

Paris? go out and let your hair down. They’d think its the new fash.
With your 2nd to the last line, I remember what Melanie Marquez said when detractors were ganging up on his half-bro Joey Marquez,
“Don’t ever judge my brother – HE IS NOT A BOOK!”

I’ve never cut my own hair, but I’ve had a couple of bad experiences with salons in Paris. that’s why I only go to Korean hair salons. and you’re lucky, it’s winter so you can wear hats and no one will notice! bad haircuts happen only during the summer for me, and there’s nothing I can do…

I cut my own hair too, I dont even need two mirrors to do it, and in 3 years that I have been here, i have never seen myself going to a salon in germany.
I was warned by the turtle in my house not to do it again, i just answer back WHY PAY DEARLY WHEN IM TALENTED ENOUGH TO DO IT hehehe and youre right, it will grow back, and thats a supermodel mentality
come here for a visit and i will do your hair… anime anyone?

I’ve been in France for 6 full years, never pa akong nagpapaputol ng buhok dito. I cut my own hair with just a front mirror. Pero laging mejo mahaba and layered look kasi it camouflage the fact na hindi pantay ang pag gupit ko he he he. Hubby hates it when I cut my hair, but hey if it works, it works. But I agree with you, in Paris you feel conscious what’s on top of your head…

Hi!
Jumped on over from Nunu’smum. Great blog and beautiful art, I might say.
One thing my wife and I found curiously funny in Paris was the prevalence of beauty salons on every street and we’d affectionately call them “coiffures” (of course we’d pronounce it ‘kopyur’) because of the handpainted signs on the windows and the term just stuck with us even back home. Kung ano raw kinarami ng sarisari stores sa Maynila, kinarami ng “kopyur” sa Paris. My wife regretted not trying at least one – para masabing nagpa-parlor siya sa Paris.
Have a safe journey! =)
